The ringed cross has been a distinctively Celtic symbol since ancient
time in Scotland, Ireland, Wales and those parts of Britain that were
influenced by the early Celtic Church. From the 5th century onward
ring or wheel headed crosses were carved on stone slabs and as free
standing monuments.
